Summer Lovin': Shaved Ice
By: Ariana N.
Summer in Southern California has definitely been a hot one. When the heat pays a visit, there is nothing like cooling down with some great shaved ice! One of my favorite spots in the San Fernando Valley is a shaved ice joint by the name of Get Shaved. This place has a wide assortment of different flavors for everyone's liking, and has their “true and tried combos” with a variety of customer favorites.
I got a “UFO” with a mixture of strawberry, grape and green apple. It is soo tasty and refreshing! On a warm day you can always find this spot filled with people .Since Cal State Northridge is right across the street, you will always find students who are looking for a cool treat to be filling up the tables.
Another cool spot I found this summer is a restaurant called Soda and Swine. Unfortunately, this spot is down in San Diego, CA, but I know I’ll be visiting this restaurant again when I am down in the area. It is located in Liberty Station which was a former Naval Training Center in San Diego that has since been transformed into a mixed-used development. This restaurant has a fun outdoor patio that has corn hole and a large tic-tac-toe set for customers who are waiting to be seated, or customers who are hanging out to enjoy a nice cold brew. All meals include meatballs (swine), whether it is a single slider, a submarine sandwich, meatballs with spaghetti; and of course you guessed it, an assortment of Soda and beer.
