V Fit: De-stress Tips
By: Ariana N.
Life can get pretty stressful, especially when juggling school, a job, extracurricular activities, friends, a relationship and being away from home. For four years I had been away for college at Humboldt State University and with the stresses that life brought to me I needed ways to unwind and relax. A few things I began to do was rock climb, hit the beach, go on hikes through the forest and do yoga. Anything really, just to get my mind off the hectic school life around me and to get outside for a few hours.
Now that I have graduated and moved back home, it's goodbye relaxing redwoods and beach and hello hectic city life. It has become a little harder to find time to really focus in on myself, but what I have learned from being away is that it is extremely important to take care of oneself and their wellbeing: mind, body and soul. I still continue to do yoga and stretch outside, and although the beach and hiking trails are not as close as before I always try my best to go at least once a week.
Luckily, during the summer it is the easiest time to get out and about before the hustle and bustle of school and other priorities set in. Something as simple as walking your dog around the neighborhood, going on a walk to the beach or on a hike, whatever gets you outside and moving is one of the best things you can do for yourself! Also, to watch what you eat. The best you is a healthy you! I myself love my acai bowls with extra granola and some tasty salads! Remember, as long as you are getting your heart pumping and getting some fresh air any exercise is good exercise!
