V Fit: Beach Yoga
By: Teeanna I.
My goal this summer was to stay healthy and live my best life. This includes taking up beach yoga.
Yoga starts at 6:45 am. My best friend Kiara and I wake up earlier to catch the sunrise before we head out to the beach. While we were in LA, we practice our yoga at Venice Beach, but these images are from Maui. We stayed in Maui for a week and maintained our beach yoga regimen. We woke up at 6:11am and ran out to the beach to see the sunrise. Once we captured that and all of its glory we went back to our rooms, put on our workout outfits and headed to the beach.
The instructor and about 20 other hotel guests participated in the beach yoga session. The instructor began by stretching us for about a half hour. From there we went into many different forms of downward facing dog, cat-cow poses, and then ending at a warrior pose that we held for many seconds.
The most difficult part of outdoor yoga is managing the flies and trying to dodge the sun. The easiest part is looking out toward the magnificent sea, and the clear blue waters that are washing up before your feet. The instructor was so great! He spoke calmly and assured us that you did not have to do anything that did not feel good to you. He ended with a great quote, "Don't compare yourself to others, hold your head high, and say one nice thing and it'll come back to you. This really stuck with me because I find myself comparing myself to others a lot and I need to focus more on myself. Yoga is helping me center and become more aware of myself and my energy.
